Fast forward to today, and my friend Uday calls to tell me we're building exactly that at Kreat.ai. Talk about being a visionary... or just really good at buzzword bingo! &#128521;</p><h2><strong>The Power of Collaboration</strong></h2><p>My core argument? Single nodes (or people, or companies) tend to be self-centered. True innovation comes from effective collaboration across domains, understanding contradictions, and working together for the greater good.</p><h2><strong>Ethical AI: The Neutral Observer</strong></h2><p>When asked to join the Ethical AI bandwagon, I chose to stay neutral. Why? Because AI hadn't shown its full potential (or its full capacity for mayhem) yet. Sometimes, you've got to let the robot toddler stumble a bit before teaching it manners.</p><h2><strong>A Work in Progress</strong></h2><p>When Uday asked how I came up with these ideas 8 years ago, my response was simple: "I'm a Work In Progress from a long time." This reminded me of my friend Rajesh Setty's profound quote:</p><blockquote><p>"I am a 'work in progress.' In an attempt to automate the process of providing &amp; collecting parking tickets, the mall&#8217;s development committee took a decision to place machines that do the job of automation.</p><p>In an attempt to reduce the wait time at the exit, they decided to keep the parking payment terminal in a central location. The challenge was, that some of the Drivers coming from remote villages in India did not know how to read the instructions and went all the way to the exit gate and realized they could not make payments there. Due to this, there was unwanted confusion at the exit gate</p><p>The main intention behind deploying these machines was to avoid congestion in the parking area. However, due to a lack of understanding among the cab drivers, the very purpose was seemingly defeated.</p><p>Having invested a significant amount into this project, changing the entire setup could not be considered. Simple solutions were needed to solve this complex problem.</p><p>People in general are usually accustomed to a set of ways. When introducing a new concept that would result in changing their behavior, a careful examination is necessary.</p><p>In this case, people are accustomed to having a physical interaction while they pay and exit the mall. It seemed as though the humble AC remote controllers had become coveted artifacts, passed from one faction to another, each group vying for control over the elusive "perfect" temperature.</p><p>The situation reached a tipping point, and our astute HR department decided it was time to intervene. They embarked on a mission to unravel the mystery behind this never-ending office temperature debate. As they delved into conversations with our diverse workforce, a chorus of grievances emerged, echoing through the halls:</p><p>"It's freezing in here! I feel like I need to wrap myself in blankets just to survive the workday," lamented one employee.</p><p>"I constantly battle the cold, and it's sapping away my motivation. As a young species, we are fortunate enough to have guidance to help us rise to this challenge. Our planet-mates, the fantastic meshwork of plants, animals, and microbes, have done billions of years of research and development. You could select synonyms like Risk, hazard, danger, fear and portray yourself as a Doomsday Prophet, or you can opt for a set of synonyms like Chance, Probability, Hope, or Choice and position yourself as a Merchant of Possibilities.</p><h4>Embracing Possibilities in Times of Adversity</h4><p>It was 1914, and the world was engulfed in World War I, making it an unfavorable time to live in. Numerous soldiers and civilians were wounded or deceased. Cotton, during this period, became a highly sought-after commodity for treating injured soldiers. Consequently, it became scarce. However, it was during this dire circumstance that <strong>Kimberly-Clark executives stumbled upon a material derived from processed wood pulp, possessing five times the absorbency of cotton and costing half as much to produce</strong>.</p><p>The company trademarked this creped wadding as Cellucotton and supplied it to the American military for use in surgical dressings. Yet, <strong>the Red Cross nurses discovered an alternative use for this cotton substitute, giving rise to the sanitary pad.</strong></p><p>Crisis gives birth to necessity, and as we all know, necessity is the mother of innovation.</p><p>From Pilates to Kleenex, from drones to computers, and from nuclear energy to advancements still prevalent today, all of these innovations emerged within the realm of constraints.</p><p>Amidst life's unpredictable tides, the human spirit soars.
